French Verb Conjugation
Learning French verb conjugation is germaine, for a comprehensive study of French. It is the foundation for academic study.
For young children, it is best to let them learn as much as possible
naturally. From hearing French and by “doing” the verbs.
Here is a French learning game for verbs:
Gave each child a plush animal and follow the directions:
Walk – and say Je marche. Make your animal walk and say –tu marches.
Now walk together with your stuffed animal and say- nous marchons - we walk.
Jump and say – Je saute. Make your stuffed animal jump and say – tu sautés.
Now jump together with your stuffed animal and say – nous sautons.
Run and say – Je cours. Make your stuffed animal run and say - tu cours.
Run together with your stuffed animal and say – nous courons.
Now go to sleep and say – Je dors. Make your stuffed animal go to sleep and say… tu dors. Now both of you go to sleep and say – nous dormons.

Regular Present Tense Verbs
French verbs are divided into three categories: ER verbs such as marcher (to walk, IR verbs such as finir (to finish), and RE verbs such as vendre (to sell).
In the present tense,regular ER verbs are conjugated as follows:
Marcher is the infinitive and means to walk. Drop the ER ending and you have the stem- march. Then add the following endings to the stem and you have the French verb conjugation.
The following ER French verbs are conjugated the same way, in the present tense.
aider - to help
aimer - to like
arriver - to arrive
chanter - to sing
chercher - to look for
danser - to dance
demander - to ask
donner - to give
écouter - to listen
entrer - to enter
étudier - to study
fermer - to close
jouer - to play
laver - to wash
oublier - to forget
parler - to speak
Regular present tense IR French verbs.
Finir is the infinitive and means to finish. Drop the IR ending; the stem is fini. Add the endings to the stem and you have the French verb conjugation.
Applaudir - to applaud
choisir - to choose
grossir - to get fat
maigrir - to get thin
réfléchir - to reflect
réussir - to succeed
The following IR French verbs are conjugated the same way, in the present tense.
Regular present tense RE French verbs
Vendre is the infinitive and means to sell. Drop the RE ending; the stem is vend. Follow the pattern below:

The following are the most common French irregular verbs, for the present tense.
Être - to be
Avoir - to have
Faire - to make or to do
