French Speaking Countries
It is fun to learn about French speaking countries and even more enjoyable, to visit them. We have visited France, Canada, Switzerland and St. Martin. Our experiences were tremendous. We met interesting people and learned about their culture. Plus, the added benefit of a chance to practice conversational French.
The following is a list of countries, where French is spoken:
Central African Republic
Wallis and Futuna
French is spoken on five continents and next to English, is the second most studied foreign language.
Take Advantage of Every Opportunity to Speak French
I always advise my children to take advantage of every opportunity to speak. Visiting foreign countries can improve your fluency. In just a short visit, you can achieve more than you would during many months of language class.
Additionally, there are many opportunities here at home to speak. There are many French speakers in the US. We have met people from the following countries: France, Haiti, Canada, Belgium, Switzerland and French Polynesia. Most people are very gracious, when you tell them you would like to practice.
Many years ago, a French family bought a house on our road and they come during the summers. They have three French kids. At first, my children did not speak much French and they spoke no English. However, children are children and they immediately started to play. Somehow, they just communicated. Over the years they would speak French and English back and forth. They also had many cultural exchanges. They invited us over for crepes and we invited them over for American pancakes.
