Read Stories to Learn Basic French Phrases!

At night, after storytime, follow-up with French storytime – an entertaining way to learn basic French phrases. Stories in French will become so much a part of your bedtime routine, that your children will demand it.

Read short stories, with lots of pictures, in French. Look for book and CD combinations and listen to French stories on CD. Fun French for Kids includes the story of The Three Bears in French.

In our classroom program, we use very short dialog type stories to reinforce vocabulary and learn basic French phrases. The stories are read by the wonderful Lia Krebs and recorded on CD. After the short story, we ask the children to repeat the story (line by line), which makes for a more active experience and encourages speaking and correct pronunciation.

Here are some of our favorite stories and the vocabulary. Many more are available in Classroom French for Kids. The English translation is shown below for your convenience. However, it is really best for you and your child to focus on understanding the French from context. That is where the pictures play a key role.
